MyCiTi – City of Cape Town

The Challenge

MyCiTi, Cape Town’s bus transit system, undergoes annual optimisations to improve routes and commuter experience. In 2018, Alkemi Collective led a campaign to educate commuters on these changes and recruit new users.

A bus drivers strike during the campaign created challenges, including negative publicity and disrupted activations.

Despite obstacles, the campaign achieved the following:

  • Print & digital materials: Updated guides, legal notices, and newspaper wraparounds.
  • Branded collateral: 10,000 lanyards, 6,500 card pouches, and ambassador uniforms.
  • Public engagement: 90 trained ambassadors deployed, with study packs and assessments.
  • Social media & web: Timely updates to counter strike related concerns and maintain engagement
